Vintage Kalaga - Garuda, Horse, & Lion
About this product
This is likely a Hindu inspired kalaga tapestry with a particularly powerful message as it appears to depict three mounts; a horse symbolising knowledge, wisdom and perseverance, a lion, symbolising bravery, strength, courage, ferociousness and Garuda, the symbolising strength, speed, and divine authority. If this is Garuda depicted in the central vignette; he may be carrying Rama in the epic tale Ramayana.
As with almost all kalagas, this has unfortunately lost a few beads during it travels. Examples are shown of this in the listing photos, but if you would like further photographs, or have questions about any of our kalagas or other artefacts & treasures, please get in touch with us directly.
Dimensions: 140cm x 72cm

About Kalagas:
Kalagas are intricate embroidered tapestries originating from Burma. With Burma's history being a blend of Buddhist and Hindu influences, you'll often find stories from both religions woven into the textile. For more information on the history and symbolism of Kalagas.
