Hand-Carved Nepalese Cheppu Mask
About this product
This dramatic mask represents Cheppu, a mythical guardian spirit from the Kathmandu Valley. Expertly carved from wood and finished with vivid paints, it features bulging eyes, a curling mane and ornate jewellery. Its striking appearance makes it a captivating piece of wall art.
In Newar culture, Cheppu is one of three protective brothers who watch over doorways and gates. Masks depicting this guardian are hung above entrances to repel negativity and invite courage. The swirling motifs and rich colours connect the mask to Tibetan art and symbolism.
Each Cheppu mask is carved in a small Nepalese workshop using locally sourced wood. The artisans paint the pieces with natural pigments and work under Fair Trade conditions. By choosing this mask you support traditional carving heritage and ensure that craftsmen receive a fair income for their skills.
