This copper statue depicts Padmasambhava, a powerful figure in Tantric Buddhism. It is believed that Guru Padmasambhava was called upon to leave India in order to travel to Tibet and spread the Buddhist faith. His name refers to the belief that he was born miraculously in the centre of a lotus. He is popular in India, Nepal and Tibet and is a rich example of Buddhist iconography.
