Copper Kuber Statue
About this product
Kuber or Kubera, the god of wealth, is often depicted as a dwarf with a big belly, a grotesque visage and adorned with a great many jewels and treasures. In his two armed form, he holds a mongoose or 'nakula' in his left hand a citron fruit in the boon-giving right hand. The citron is a symbol of fertility whilst the mongoose is believed to produce jewels from its mouth, spreading wealth. These statues are produced using the 'lost wax' method. This method involves creating an intricate wax carving based upon the dimensions of traditional Tibetan artwork. This wax figure is then coated in several layers of clay mixtures, with each layer being allowed to dry before the next application. After the final layer has dried, it is placed over a fire which slowly melts the wax inside creating a mould into which molten metal can be poured. After the metal has cooled and the clay removed, the artisan will then finish the statue using various techniques resulting in this beautiful work of art.
