Copper Buddha Statue
About this product
This beautiful copper statue depicts the Medicine Buddha, also known as Bhaisajya guru. He is believed to aid the suffering of people with the medicine of his teachings. This Buddha is usually depicted with a bowl of medicine nectar held in his lap and the other hand resting upon his knee. These statues are produced using the 'lost wax' method. This method involves creating an intricate wax carving based upon the dimensions of traditional Tibetan artwork. This wax figure is then coated in several layers of clay mixtures, with each layer being allowed to dry before the next application. After the final layer has dried, it is placed over a fire which slowly melts the wax inside creating a mould into which molten metal can be poured. After the metal has cooled and the clay removed, the artisan will then finish the statue using various techniques resulting in this beautiful work of art.
