Buddha Nepalese Ocean Drum
About this product
Enter a space of rhythmic serenity with this special Nepalese ocean drum — a hand-painted instrument featuring the calm visage of Buddha, ready to fill your space with gentle waves of sound and mindful presence. With every gentle roll or tilt, the beads inside create a soothing cascade that evokes ocean spray, making this drum equally at home in meditation sessions, sound-bath rituals or simply as a strikingally unique piece of décor.
This drum is crafted by Nepali artisans using traditional techniques: a wooden frame is shaped and fitted with a taut membrane, then the surface is hand-painted with a serene Buddha image. Here, he is shown with his right hand in the Bhumisparsha Mudra (the 'earth-touching gesture') which holds deep symbolic meaning in Buddhism. It is the Mudra that Siddhartha Gautam held when he obtained enlightenment and became the Buddha. It represents him calling to earth to witness his triumph over temptation. His left hand holds an alms bowl and is in the Bhaisajya Mudra or the Dhyana Mudra. This symbolises healing, meditation, and renunciation, with the bowl representing the Buddhist monastic practice of collecting alms for sustenance.
Made in Nepal by skilled makers who work within fair-trade or artisan-driven frameworks, this drum contributes to local craft economies and helps maintain cultural heritage.
