Reused & Recycled

Saris are being creatively reused and recycled into eco-friendly clothing, accessories, and homewares.

By upcycling these vibrant, pre-loved fabrics, artisans promote sustainability, reduce textile waste, and support circular fashion - all while giving traditional textiles a stylish second life.

Kantha is one of the oldest and most cherished forms of embroidery. It is created by hand-stitching layers of recycled cotton sari fabrics together using a simple running stitch, resulting in a highly versatile and tactile cloth.

FAQs

Can you tell me more about how your recycled sari products are made?

Saris start to wear after a few years of use but instead of throwing them out they are saved and made into new items of clothing or homewares.

Because of their reclaimed nature, all the patterns and colours of recycled items vary, but this just makes each one all the more special.

Who makes your recycled sari clothing and gifts?

We work closely with makers in Nepal and India to continually come up with fresh new ideas and designs, many of which are designed in house. We try to visit the workshops every one or two years to discuss new projects, see the workspaces and meet the talented artisans crafting these wonderful products.

How do I know these are Fair Trade products?

Siesta has been a member of BAFTS (British Association of Fair Trade Suppliers) for many years. We also go out to visit the makers every one or two years to ensure their working practices still meet the required standards.

A product says it may differ from the listing photographs why?

Many of our products are entirely handmade and natural variations should be expected, goods received may differ in a number of ways from the picture shown. This should be seen as an asset, not a fault – we believe it is better to have a unique item than mass conformity.

Part of what makes our recycled sari products so special is that the artisans are reusing old saris to give them new life. This could be using full dresses again or just small offcuts. But the end result is the same - a beautiful handmade product, as unique as you are!

If you have a specific request you can leave us a note in the order comments on the basket screen and we will try our best to find an appropriate match for you.

Is everything you sell on Faire?

Not quite, some items are exclusive to our website but the majority of our products are now available to buy on Faire.

Do you offer exclusivity?

We always strive to maintain a reciprocally loyal relationship with all our wholesale customers. As part of this we would not normally, for example, open an account for a new customer who would directly compete with an established one. We would allow customers in close proximity to purchase from us if their stock lines were obviously disparate. As an example, we would supply both a music shop with our instruments and a clothing boutique with our clothing lines in the same vicinity.
Having said this, every case is different and in order for us to make a decision on the subject we have to consider several things. Should a customer spend a very small amount with us compared to other similar suppliers, it would not be fair on us to agree to exclusive lines. We also would have to look at the punctuality of payments and whether orders are achieving a high enough order value. Finally, in larger towns and cities where there is an increased customer footfall, it should be possible for us to supply more than one account as long as they are a sufficient distance apart.

Can I have a discount?

Quite possibly! After your first order where you can enjoy 10% off, Siesta operates a loyalty-based discount structure. The discount is based on the amount you have spent directly with Siesta in the last 365
days. Contact us for more information about your current discount.

How do I sign up to buy your sari items?

Easy! You can either sign up for a direct Siesta account and benefit from 10% off your first order, or you can sign up via Faire.
