Handmade Himalayan Lokta Paper
This traditional and tactile paper is made from the pink-flowered Lokta bush of the Himalayas.
The bark is harvested and carried down the mountains to be dried in the sun. After this, it is boiled in a solution of water and soda ash to soften it and remove impurities. It is then washed and beaten with wooden mallets to create a pulp, which is then mixed with water and poured into wooden frames, and left to dry in the sun.
The dried sheets of paper are then rolled over with smooth stones to create a flattened finish, and the paper is finally ready to made in to beautiful products.
