Antique Mani Singing Bowl No.43
About this product
Mani bowls are distinguished from other singing bowls by their shape. They are flat-bottomed with wider bellies and walls that taper towards the mouth. They have a unique and special sound. Decorative markings are limited to just a few incised lines below the rim and sometimes on the base inside.
Mani singing bowls date from the 16th to 18th century and are becoming increasingly difficult to source.
Singing bowls from Nepal are made from five metals: copper, iron, tin, lead and zinc. The major components are copper and tin which make up the bronze alloy often referred to as ‘bell metal’. The other metals are present only in very small amounts.
Each bowl comes with a complimentary beater made from a locally grown tree near to where the bowls are forged called 'Haldu' or 'Haldina'.
