About this product

These beautiful retablos represent the sacred Peruvian ritual of thanking the goddess Pachamama. By offering corn, coca leaves and other food and drink to Pachamama (Mother Earth), it is hoped she will be pleased with the gesture and provide rain, a successful harvest and protection to the people in the year to come. The ceremony is usually led by shamans who are represented here in their brightly coloured traditional dress. The central shaman is holding the kintus (a coca leaf bouquet), a natural offering used in prayer to remind us to be grateful for what the earth has provided. Each intricate retablo is hand made by artisans in the Andes of Peru.
